Id like to meet Jeff Bennett.
SCENE ONE:THE CONTROL ROOM
Linda: We need an actor,Steven.We need a good actor to star
in the new show with Mary Beth.
Steven:What abut this one?I worked with him last year.
Hes good.
Linda: No.His hairs too long.
Steven:He can cut his hair.
Linda: Hes wrong for the part.
Steven:Linda,we have to pick an actor.
Were going to start work next week.
How about this one?He has a lot of experience.
Linda: Mmmm...no,Im sorry,Steven.But this is an important
role.And WEFL need better ratings.We have to pick
the right actor.
Stecen:I understand.Linda,I want you to think about these two
again.I know both of them.Theyre excellent actors.
Linda: I like the older one.
Steven:This one.
Linda: Yes,because the actor has to be older than Mary Beth,
and he has to be taller than she is.
Steven:Nope.Hes too short.Hes an inch shorter.
Linda: Then hes not right for the role.
Steven:The last one.I guess hes better.
Linda: Ummm...I dont know.
Linda: I like him.
Steven:Jeff Bennett.
Linda: Why not?I think hes handsome.And hes tall.
Hes taller than Mary Beth.He has it all.
Steven:Well,he doesnt have much experience.
Mike: Hi,Linda,Steven.
Linda: Oh,hi,Mike.You two are going to be working together.
Stevens the director on our new show.
Mike: "Murder at Midnight"?Great.Im going to be the cameraman
on that.
Steven:Good.
Linda: Mike,we cant decide.Which one do you like better?
Mike: For which role?
Linda: The starring role.
Mike: Well,this guy looks bigger.
Linda: Bigger?You mean heavier?
Mike: Yeah.Hes too fat.
Linda: Then you like this actor better.
Mike: Right.I know this guy.Hes good actor.I know his work.
See those eyes?Its the eyes that show emotion.
His face is perfect for television.
Steven:Well.Thanks for the advice.
Mike: Anytime.See you later.
Linda: Thanks,Mike.
Steven:So,we have two choices.What do you think?
Linda: Id like to meet Jeff Bennett.Then we can make
a decision.
Steven:Jeff is in New York.Im going to call him right now.
Maybe he can come in tomorrow.
Linda: Good.

SCENE ONE&TWO:THE STUDIO AND THE CONTROL ROOM
Steven:Hi,Jeff.How are you today?
Jeff: Oh.Uh...fine.Im fine.
Linda: He seems nervous.
Steven:No need to be nervous,Jeff.Were just going to talk
for a few minutes.Why dont you take a seat?
Linda: I think hes handsome.The female viewers are going
to love him.
Steven:I agree.Hes good-looking.
Id like to ask you a few questions.
Jeff: Oh.Sure.I love questions.Great.
Steven:Can you sing,Jeff?
Jeff: Can I sing?I didnt know this show had any singing.
Steven:It doesnt.I just want to know about your experience.
Jeff: Oh,yeah,I can sing.I took five years of voice lessons.
Linda: He does have a good voice.
Steven:Can you dance?
Jeff: Yes.I was in a musical show last summer.
Steven:Are you more interested in theater or in television?
Jeff: Im more interested in television.Definitely.
Steven:Jeff,do you have more experience in television or
in theater?
Jeff: Well.I have more experience in theater.But I did a
TV show for KNEB.
Steven:In Los Angeles?
Jeff: Yes.I lived in Los Angeles,oh,two years ago.
I didnt want to stay there.I like New York better.
Its more exciting than Los Angeles.
Linda: I know he doesnt have much experience.
But he has everything else.Hes more energetic,
hes more intelligent,hes more talented.
Steven:And hes more nervous.Linda,I think were talking
a chance on this guy.
Linda: I disagree.Oh,Steven,just look at that face!Hes
more photogenic than any of the other actors.
Steven:All right...All right.
Linda: What do you think of Stamford?
Jeff: I love Stamford.I grew up here,you know.
Steven:No,I didnt that now.How would you compare New
York with Stamford?
Jeff: Well,New York is more interesting,but its also
more expensive,more crowed.When youre trying
to sleep,you find out its much noisier.
Stamford is much more beautiful than New York.
And the people are much friendlier.
Steven:Well,I hope you think Linda and I are friendly too,
since were going to be working together.
Linda: You have the role,Jeff.Welcome to WEFL.
Jeff: Terrific!I cant wait to get started!

Thats yours,Charles.
SCENE ONE:THE STUDIO
Rita:There we are,here we are.
Mary Beth:Youre late.
Charles:OK,who gets what?Cheese sandwich?
Rita:Thats his.
Charles:These are all mine...salad?
Rita:Thats here.
Charles:Chicken sandwich?Whose is this?
Rita:Thata yours,Charles.
Charles:Oh,of course.
Charles:Diet soda?
Mary Beth:Thouse are ours.
Charles:For you...And coffee for me.
Oh,theres a pizza here.Whose is it?
Rita:Didnt you get something for Steven and Linda?
Charles:Oh,yeah.The pizzas theirs.
Charles:Is your hair getting gray,Mike?
Mike:Its darker than yours.
Charles:It had to be gray for a movie role out in Denver.
Wonderful,wonderful place in the mountains.
Rita:Are you sorry to come back?
Charles:Oh,no.I like to do a movie now and then,just for
a change.But Im happy to be here in Stamford.Then I can
sleep in my own bed every night.
Mike:I see you like the food here too.
Charles:You auditioned for a mivie in New York,didnd you?
What happened with that?I thought the part was yours.
Mary Beth:I thought the part was mine too,but they had their
own ideas.They wanted the blonde.
Charles:Is sorry to hear that.
Rita:Youre happy with our new show/arent you?
Mary Beth:Oh,yes.And its a good role,so I cant complain
about my part.
Charles:What about this new actor,Jeff Bennett?Do you know him?
Mary Beth:Hes kind of new to television,but hell be OK.
Hes very nice.You should get to know him.
SCENE TWO:ANOTHER OF THE STUDIO
Mary Beth:Yhe truth is,Im really disappointed about that movie.
The role was exactly right for me...Right now I have this
new television show to work on.And we have a new actor working
with us--Jeff Bennett.Its his first starring role.I know how
to do my role,but maybe hes going to need help with his.Maybe
I can give him some advice.I think hes a nice guy.I hope hes
a success.
