13、Before you cut off the tags(标签)and put on your newest clothing, you may want to make a stop at the washing machine. Although new clothing may look clean and fresh, it could actually be bad for your health.
According to Donald Belstio, MD, a professor at Columbia University Medical Center, new clothes do cause some risks of health problems when they are worn without washing. For starters, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Belstio explained that dyes(染料)found on new clothes can hurt the skin. Pre-washing of new clothes will prevent any dyes from doing bad to our skin or other things, like chairs, as New York City doctor Hilary Baldwin, MD, told Real Simple. But there's more.
Dr Belstio also warns that lice(虱子)can come to you from clothing tried on the store dressing room, and there are certain illnesses that can be passed along through clothing. Dr Baldwin advises people that it's especially critical to pre-wash pieces like underpants and swimsuits. You may not want to imagine this, but maybe you're not the first person to try on that new clothing一perhaps it's been tried on in the dressing room, and that's just the first of many cases of possible skin contact. Another point is that your clothing came into contact with many people during the producing, shipping, and selling processes. "There's just no real way of knowing how many hands or other body parts have touched your clothing," Dr Belstio warns "Washing your new clothes is a very smart thing to do," Dr Belsotio said. "I've seen examples of some strange things, so I don't take any chances."
To wash new clothes, simply put them in very hot water (if they can stand that temperature一check the tag first), and hang them to dry. While you prepare your new clothes for their first fashion show, here are other common laundry(洗衣)mistakes you want to avoid.

3.What would the text talk about next?
A.Why new clothes should be washed.
B.When we should wash new clothes.
C.How we can avoid buying ditty clothes.
D.What mistakes we make widen washing clothes

14、Teenager Jake Deham was skiing with his family in the US when he fell over and lost one of his skis. His family didn’t know that he had a problem. They kept on skiing. When they got to the foot of the mountain, there was no sign of Jake.
Jake couldn’t find his ski anywhere. In the end, he decided to take off his other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn’t work out the right way to go.
It was now getting dark and he was a long way from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the cold temperatures. But Jake kept calm. At home, Jake watched a lot of programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the advice from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole so the wind couldn’t blow into it. Outside his hole, the temperature fell to a dangerous-15℃ that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold.

16、There are millions of charities in the UK. In fact, you can hardly think of any good business that doesn’t have a charity linked (联系的) toit.
The British people are so generous with charities. A lot of people are quite prepared to donate money to charities, even when they are short of money themselves. There are many reasons why people give money to charities. Sometimes it’s a personal reason, say their parents died of cancer so they give money to cancer research, or of a religious reason. Many religions (宗教) encourage their followers to donate a part of their income (收入) to the poor. Many religious people feel it is their duty to help others as part of their faith (信仰). Still, other people just give donations because they have some spare money and they think it is a good thing to do.
Many people think it is necessary to give donations to charities because they wish to make the lives and situations of those in need better.
The British government has made it quite easy for people to give money to charity as you can pay through your payroll (工资单). So when you get your salary, you automatically (自动地) get some money taken out and give it to charity. Some people have some money taken out to give to charities, such as Save the Children Fund, thinking it is a good way to save children around the world.

17、Some people say that today, reading is not as important as it was. These days we have photographs, films, radio and television. Why read a description of something when you can look at a photograph? Why read a newspaper when the latest news is brought to us every hour on radio and TV?
Photography was certainly a wonderful invention. Photographs can give a very clear idea of places and of people that we have never seen. An encyclopedia (百科全书) , for example, is always better when it has good illustrations. But we also need words to explain the photographs and drawings. A photograph of an elephant may give us a very good idea of what an elephant looks like, but it tells us nothing about the different sorts of elephants there are and where they are found, their exact size and weight, how they can be useful to man and so on.
In the same way, a good film has action, movement, color, and maybe music. These are things we do not find on the printed page. But reading a novel has certain advantages over watching even an excellent feature film. Reading a novel requires imagination. Each of us imagines a story differently.
Watching news on television can certainly be exciting. But we need newspapers as well. Some important news stories happen when there are no cameras around. More importantly, a newspaper does not just report the news. It explains why something has been happening. It also contains interesting articles on different subjects. Newspapers are an important part of our lives, if we want to understand what is going on in the places we live as well as in other parts of the world.
Reading is very important for information and pleasure. We need to be good readers to enjoy a full life as human beings. Reading is a skill and like other skills, it needs practice. The more we read, the better readers we become. And the better readers we become, the more we enjoy reading! The secret is to get the reading habit. Read at least a little every day.
1.According to Paragraph 2, photographs can give us __________.
A.enough information abou
