School education is very important and useful, but no one can learn 2 from school. A teacher, no matter how much he 3 , can’t teach his students everything they want to know. The teacher’s job is to show his students how to read and 4 to think. So much more is to be learned out of school 5 the students themselves. It is always more important to know how to study by oneself than to memorize some 6 or formulas (公式). It is actually quite 7 to learn a certain fact in history or a formula in mathematics. But it is very difficult to use a formula in 8 a math problem. Great scientists, such as Einstein, Newton and Galileo, didn’t learn many things from school, but they were all 9 and invented many things for mankind. The 10 for their success is that they knew how to study. They read books that were not taught at school. They worked hard all their lives, wasting not a single moment. Scientists have found that dogs are the only animals that can read emotion(情感)in faces much like humans. The finding suggests that like an understanding friend, dogs can see if we are happy, sad, pleased or angry. When humans look at a new face, their eyes usually look across the left, falling on the right hand side of the person’s face first. A possible reason for this is that the right side of the human face is better at expressing emotions. Scientists have now shown that pet dogs also have “left gaze bias(左视偏好)”, but only when looking at human faces. No other animal has been known to do like this before. Dr. Kun Guo with his team showed 17 dogs the pictures of human, dog and monkey faces as well as something else. The dogs’ eyes and heads show a strong left gaze bias when the animals see human faces. But this did not happen when they were shown other pictures, including those of dogs. Guo suggests that over thousands of years living with humans, dogs may have developed the left gaze bias as a way to guess our emotions. “Recent studies show that the right side of our faces can express emotions better than the left. If true, then it makes sense for dogs and humans to see the right hand side of a face first.” 1.Why are dogs seen as man’s best friend according to the passage? A.Because dogs are the closest animals to humans. B.Because dogs can read the emotions in humans’ faces easily. C.Because dogs can understand us better when we feel sad. D.Because dogs are good at expressing emotions. 2.The dogs’ left gaze bias helps them _______. A.get along well with humans B.express emotions quickly C.have more understanding friends D.remember more new faces 3.The passage mainly wants to tell us that _______. A.dogs have been man’s best friends for thousands of years B.humans have a “left gaze bias” C.the “left gaze bias” works on all animals D.dogs can read emotions the same as humans D 16、You can play the game in the city or in the country. You can play almost anywhere as long as there is room to run. All you need is at least three players. The game is called “tag (捉人游戏)”. Anyone can play tag, including children under 5 years old, though sometimes they have difficulty understanding and following the rules. In the game, one player is “it”. The players decide theboundaries. For example, any area out of the yard might be out of the boundary. The player who is “it” closes her eyes and counts to 20 while the others run away. When the player who is “it” opens her eyes, she must chase (追) and touch one of the other players. The player touched by “it” will become the new “it”. Tag is a safe game to play. But still, you’d better follow these rules: 1. Don’t play tag in the street or parking lots. 2. It is safer to play tag on a soft surface, such as grass, sand. 3. Be sure to wear shoes that are suitable for running. 4. Play tag on the ground. Climbing trees or stairs should not be part of game. 5. Don’t “tag” other players with sticks or other objects. 6. Be careful about playing tag around animals, especially dogs. Remember, dogs have an instincts (直觉) to chase and catch anything that runs. Don’t play tag around a dog you don’t know. No matter where and how you play, tag is a game that will bring you hours of run—lots of exercise! 1.Tag is a game that can be played . What should we do to keep these students safe on the road? On April 5, the State Council(国务院) published new rules about school bus safety. These new rules are stricter than the old ones. Under the new rules, local governments must make sure that students go to nearby school or boarding (寄宿的) schools to reduce traffic risks (风险). Also, local governments must help kids in the countryside reach their school buses. From now on, school buses have a speed limit (限制) of 80 km/h on highways and 60 km/h on normal roads. While on the road, other cars must let school buses go first. The new rules also say that school buses must never be overloaded (超载的). There are many other rules as well. A school bus must have more than seven seats. On each bus, there must be at least one adult to keep an eye on the kids. Each school bus must have a fire extinguisher (灭火器), a first aid kit (急救箱) and a GPS. Last year, a series of school bus accidents happened in China. To stop such accidents, the Central Government decided to strengthen (加强) the rules for school buses. The most serious accident happened in November in Gansu, When a nine-seat minibus crashed(碰撞). There were 62 children inside, and 21 of them died. 1.What did the State Council publish on April 5? A.New rules about school bus safety. B.New rules about student safety.
