Yet we lose countless hours to daily activities that bring us little joy like taking buses and waiting in line. What if we could turn these little blocks of unoccupied time into precious and rewarding moments for learning and reflection? Founded in 2012, iReader, a micro-learning app on mobile phones, brings the biggest ideas from best-selling books through 15-minute audio (音频) and text. So far, more than 3,000 books have been included, ranging from psychology and parenting to management and economics, with new titles added every day. Reader is pioneering a new method of reading, with over 9 million users enjoying the benefits already. According to the Pew Research Center (PRC), the British read just 4 paper books a year and over 25% haven’t read a single paper book this year, but reading isn’t dying. There are now more ways for the British to read than ever before, due to the widespread use of e-books and audio books. The books in iReader are rewritten to ensure it is easy to remember the main content. The way the content is edited has been specifically designed to ensure it is useful in practice. Besides, the content is rewritten with relevant examples in real life, which means users are more likely to remember and apply what is helpful to them. Holger Seim, German co-founder of this app, declares, “iReader gives you the biggest ideas in the shortest possible time. It transforms great ideas into little packs you can listen to or read in just 15 minutes.” 1、What does the author suggest people do in the unoccupied time? A.Read and think. B.Write and share. C.Digital technology are taking the place of paper books. D.New forms of books are changing the way the British read. 3、How does iReader make the content easy to remember? A.By bringing fun to it. B.By making it useful. C.By using artistic designs. D.By taking users as examples. 4、What is the best title for the text? A.iReader Prevents Reading from Dying B.iReader Unites Worldwide Book-lovers C.iReader: The Best New App Creation D.iReader: Big Ideas in Small Packages 22.(8分)Living Music in the Home Living music in the Home is a Waldorf-inspired resource for parents and teachers who wish to share the joy of music with their children and student. To test it, researchers presented multiple dilemmas to a sample set of 1,010 people. The participants were assigned a device at random. One case of the questions participants were asked is the classic “trolley(有轨电车) problem”: A runaway trolley is headed towards five people tied up on a-set of train tracks. You can do nothing, resulting in the deaths of five people, or push a man off a bridge, which will stop the trolley. The practical response is to kill one man to save five lives, which 33. 5 percent of smartphone users chose, compared to 22.3 percent of PC users. “What we round in our study is that when people used a smartphone to view classic moral problems, they were more likely to make more unemotional, reasonable decisions when presented with a highly emotional dilemma, “Dr Albert Barque-Duran, the lead author of the study, told City, University of London. “This could be due to the increased time pressure often present with smartphones and also the increased psychological distance which can occur when we use such devices compared to PCs.” As for why the researchers started this study, Dr Barque-Duran noted, “Due to the fact that our social lives, work and even shopping take place online, it is important to think about how the contexts where we typically face moral decisions and are asked to engage in moral behavior have changed, and the impact this could have on the hundreds of millions of people who use such devices daily. “it’s clear that we need more research on how our devices affect our moral decision making because we’re using screens at an ever increasing rate. 1、Why did the author mention the trolley problem? A.To introduce a difficult problem to readers. B.To introduce the aim of carrying out the study. C.To show an example of the questions in the study D.To show the difficulty in dealing with dilemmas. 2、How do the smartphone users of the study behave in dealing with emotional dilemmas? A.Calmly. A.help people bear more pressure B.help people make decisions quick C.make people feel more mentally distant D.make people stay happier to solve problems 4、What can we infer from the text? At first, I thought I was going to hate it, but to my surprise, I found that I preferred the quiet country life over the noisy city life. The next move was more of a surprise for me. I was having a good time with my friends at school. But all of a sudden, my mom told me that we were going to move to the United States. Can you imagine how I must have felt ?My English wasn’t that good, though I did know the basics. The day I arrived in the US was a snowy day. For a girl who grew up in Shanghai and hadn’t seen real thick snow on the ground, it was a big thing. Compared with my school in China, there were a lot more creative thinking questions, which I was better at anyway. Time flew by and it had been almost four years since I moved. Then again, I was told we were going to move to Singapore. As I’m writing this article, I am still new here and have been going to school for about two and a half months. I found out that the education here is quite special. Different from AP system in the US, the Singapore CIS uses the IB system. This switch drowned me in constant stress. I was confused about the new curriculum, and I knew it would take me a long time to adapt. But what I’ve gotten out of my experience over three countries is that no matter where you are studying, you are always learning. And a piece of advice to people who are going to move around the globe: It’s always best to just roll with it. 1、What did the writer think of life in the countryside? A.It wasn’t as interesting as she expected. B.It was no better than city life. C.She wished she had moved to the countryside earlier. D.She loved to live in the countryside. 2、What did the writer worry about most about before moving to the US? A.It would be difficult to make new friends. B.Language would be a big problem for her. C.She wouldn’t get used to the weather there. D.She wouldn’t like the schools there. 3、What does she say about her school life in Singapore? A.Creative thinking is more common. B.Students are asked to do many projects together. C.Students have more freedom to choose classes than in the US. D.It is different from the US school system. 4、What is the writer’s attitude towards her worldwide schooling? A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Critical. D.Doubtful. 25.(10分) If you buy a washing machine, a fridge or a television in Europe, it comes with a sticker. Thanks to a 1992 EU rule, all appliances must be labelled (贴标签) with their energy efficiency. So why has our food system-which threatens 10,000 species with extinction, produces about 30% of greenhouse gases, and drives 800/o of our air pollution-only ever had voluntary eco-labels? The appliances ruling had a huge impact; initially, 75% of fridges and freezers were rated G to D(low efficiency) , but today 98% are classed A++ or A+++. Worldwide, the energy efficiency of labelled appliances has increased three times faster than appliances without labels. Introducing an equal system for food could have an even bigger impact. Mandatory environmental labels would change how we produce and consume in far-reaching ways. First, producers would have to measure their impacts in a uniform way and be accountable for the results. This would not be expensive: it is free to monitor environmental impacts using digital tools such as Field print and the Cool Farm Tool. Second, they support sustainable consumption. Our research found that products that look, taste and cost the same can have dramatically different environmental impacts. High-impact beef producers use 5,7000% more land and create l,000% more greenhouse gases than low-impact producers. Labels would allow consumers to tell these products apart. They would highlight both high-and low-impact producers, in the same way, across multiple products. This would encourage more people to think about their choices by exposing them to the facts every time they are in the shops. We ca
