A group of Canadian kids are already spreading a bit of Christmas spirit in Halifax，Nova Scotia, by wrapping warm clothing around lamp poles for the city’s homeless to pick up and use. The sight of warmly dressed poles caught recently the attention of locals, who stopped to click pictures to share on social media.
Every year, Tara Atkins collects warm clothing from her community, in order to give to the less fortunate. This year, she took to Facebook to call for donations and the response was strong—their front porch (门厅）was filled with bags of clothes. Since the family was traveling to Halifax on November 15 with their daughter Jayda and seven of her friends to celebrate her 8th birthday, Tara decided it was the perfect time to teach the children a valuable life lesson.
The kids spent time handing out coats to any homeless they met on the streets and tied the rest around lamp posts for o thers to pick up. According to Tara, the experience helped the children better understand the difficult situation of homeless people having to confront the severe winter on the s treets.
There is no way to be sure that the coats left hanging on street posts were actually picked up by the homeless, but Tara says she isn’t too worried about that. By next morning, all the jackets and scarves on the posts were gone. Photographs of the inspiring project have been shared about 8,000 times on Facebook, and got over 10,000 likes. Tara, who did something similar in Toronto in December last year, says she’s already planning next year’s coat drive. She’s hoping to spread the word well ahead of time, so more people can contribute. And she also wants to add $ 5 fast food gift cards so the recipients (接受者）can also enjoy a hot meal. “We’ve had help from others when we were in need, and we knew how great it made us feel,” said Zachary Atkins, Tara’s husband.

Life hasn’t always been easy for Sareana Kimia, 16. Her parents split up when she was young, and she hasn’t seen her dad since she was l0. In June 2014, she and her mom, Shefali Gupta, found out that they would soon be evicted (逐出) from their home. Sareana knew that her mom had money problems.
Even before the eviction, Gupta had become very sad. Because she didn’t have health insurance, Gupta couldn’t get a doctor’s help for her emotional problems.
Sareana took charge of things at home. For example, she often cooked her family’s meals. When she and her mom were about to lose their home, it was Sareana who arranged a place for them to stay.
For years, Sareana had been an active volunteer with several organizations. She even started her own group, Youth for National Change. It works to support the rights of young people.
Sareana called a few adults she had worked with. After finding out about her situation, one couple opened their doors right away. But by August 2014, the couple no longer had room for Sareana and her mom. The two ended up living in their car. They didn’t want to go to a homeless shelter out of fear that they could be split up. Through it all, Sareana kept working on projects and studying. “At no point did I let what was going on change my daily routine,” she says.
Sareana is homeschooled online and goes to classes at a nearby college. Last fall, school bills began piling up. She had no way to pay them. A friend suggested that she try raising funds online. After a newspaper ran an article about Sareana, donations poured in-nearly $ 30,000! She paid for school and had enough money left to rent a small apartment. She and her mom moved into it in January 2015.

On January 5th, students in our school visited Robot World, which we saw a great diversity of robot. It was amazed to find those robots could do a great number of things just like real people, including playing chess, playing piano and drawing pictures.
