One of the most memorable scenes for many came early on in the series. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the owls began to send letters to Harry inviting him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Owls were then mentioned frequently in the books and created amazing images in the films. Everyone around the world loves the Harry Potter series. But if there has been one bad result of J.K. Rowling's creative gifts, it is the craze that has swept through many countries for owning an owl. Many experts suggest that because Harry Potter fans would like to own their own owl, there is a strong chance that owls may soon start to die out. There are over 200 different species of owl. They are nocturnal birds, which means they are awake at night, usually hunting. They have large round eyes that face forwards on their flat faces. Owls also like to be on their own, unless it is the mating season. Indonesia is one of the main countries that are now selling owls to young and old Harry Potter fans. There are many bird markets throughout the country, with the largest being Pramuka in Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta. Birds are Indonesia's most popular pet, with about 20 percent of all homes keeping at least one. It is thought that about 13,000 owls are sold each year in Indonesia's bird markets. They cost between ﹩10 and ﹩30. This is affordable for most families where the parents work. Most of the owls have been taken from the wild and do not live for very long once they have been caught. Not everyone is happy about the situation, including the Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling. She said, "If anybody has been influenced by my books, to think an owl would be happiest shut in a small cage and kept in a house, I would like to take this opportunity to say as forcefully as I can, "you are wrong!"" 1、What purpose does Paragraph 1serve? A.To bring up the topic. B.To express the main idea. C.To advertise Harry Potter books. D.To describe the author's favourite animal. 2、What harmful result do the Harry Potter series bring about? A.Owls being forced out of their homes. B.An increase in the animal attacks. C.Damage to children's creativity. D.A fall in the numbers of owls. 3、What do we know about Indonesia's bird market? A.They mainly sell owls. B.They have a ready sale for owls. C.They usually sell home﹣raised owls. D.They sell owls at a comparatively high price. 4、What did J.K. Rowling think of the situation? A.It is something she dislikes. B.It would be understandable. C.It is too complex to change. D.It made her feel excited. B In a world full of Kates and Sarahs, you might think it’d be nice to have a unique name to help me stand out in a crowd.Being named Stacia (pronounced stay-sha) is not so lucky to me. I’11 get the occasional. “Your name is so pretty" after introducing myself, but eventually my name causes me more frustration than happiness. For example, Microsoft Word always tries to tell me my name isn’t a real word. I was never able to buy a cheesy Mickey Mouse keychain from Disneyland as a kid (in other words, I didn’t have a childhood). I couldn’t even pronounce my own name correctly until I was five. I once had a professor who pronounced my name differently each class. After a while I stopped correcting him, and that’s been my reaction to strangers ever since. In other cages, I'd rather tell the cashier my name is Staci and save both of us, as well as the people standing behind me in line, valuable time. Meeting new people gives me anxiety, and I've realized it's easier just to lie about my name altogether in certain cases. Actually I did—so many times that Brittany is now my chosen “going out" name. It may have caused some confusion with my friends at first, who would let out a small laugh or confused look, but I've trained them to keep a straight face whenever I came up with this fake(假的)name. Now going out on weekends means I get to have a shift of identity. Frustrations aside, being the owner of a unique name has made me appreciate the little things in life. Someone pronouncing or spelling my name correctly on the first try brings me more joy than it probably should. I also love when I meet another Stacia and we get to bond over our shared struggles. To any other Stacias reading this—I feel you, girl. P.S. I apologize to any real Brittanys out there. Thanks for letting me borrow your name ! 1、169.How does the author often feel about her name? A.Annoyed B.Happy C.Disappointed D.Proud 2、171.Why does the author use a fake name? A.To enjoy a different identity B.To stand out in a crowd C.To save time and trouble D.To make a fool of herself 3、173.What’s the reaction of her friends to “Brittany" finally? A.They are laughing at her B.They are used to it C.They are strongly against her D.They are confused about it 4、175.How does the author sound when telling the story? A.Guilty B.Cautious C.Curious D.Humorous 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节)第一节(每小题1分,满分20分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项. I was in desperate need of a break.
