5. The Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节(8月15日)
赏月 admire the moon
The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most charming nights of the calendar. On that night the moon is supposed to be brighter and fuller than any other night. In China, a full moon is symbolic of family reunion, which is why that day is also known as the "Day of Reunion."
Food: People eat moon cakes (月饼)and round fruits such as apples, honey peaches, and grapes. The shape of the food symbolizes the fullness of the moon and family harmony.
Activities: Sons and daughters come back to their parents' house. They usually eat fragrant (芳香的)moon cakes of many varieties, while children run around with their brightly-lit lanterns. After nightfall, entire families go out under the stars for a walk, looking up at the full silver moon, thinking of their nearby relatives or friends, as well as those who are far from home.

The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar(中国的农历). It’s China’s New Year’s Day. So usually a month before the festival people begin to buy food clothes and decorations(装饰) for houses.
About a week before the festival housewives are busy preparing the new year dinner. And they will do a lot of washing and cleaning in the houses. People who are far away on business are hurrying to return home for the new year’s family reunion(团聚).
On New Year Eve each family will gather tighter eating talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. And there will be some interesting programmes on TV. The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from parents or grandparents.
