一、教材分析：
本单元以looking good, feeling good为话题，旨在通过单元学习，使学生了解如何气色好，感觉好。从Amy冒着生命危险减肥的事例，让学生深刻领悟出健康的价值。通过阅读讨论了解保持健康的各种方法，鼓励和帮助同学朋友积极参加体育锻炼，合理饮食，养成良好的生活习惯。
二、教学目标：
1.通过阅读让学生了解三封信的大意，让学生能就课文内容进行复述和问答。
2.使学生理解保持健康的重要性。
三、教学重点、难点：
1.理解健康的重要性并能正确对待减肥。
2.理解文意并复述大意。
四、教学方法：多媒体教学。
五、课堂教学过程
Pre-class activity
教师播放英文歌A Big Big Girl ，活跃气氛，为上课作好准备。
Warming-up
1. Ask students to talk about the pictures and answer.
Do they look good and feel good?
Then show some pictures including a fat person. （Students may laugh）
T: Do you feel it’s interesting? Why?
S: In the picture, there’re women models. Women models means they have good figures. But there’s a fat man among them.
T: What kind of person do you like better, the fat or the slim?
[设计意图]
    课堂一开始教师由幻灯和问题导入新课，为任务呈现作准备，并进一步引发学生对本课话题的好奇心和兴趣。
2. Discuss about this question:
If you are the person who is over-weight, how will you lose weight?

[设计意图]
简单讨论时下减肥方法，让学生初步认识到吃减肥药是不正确的，有害健康。以此引出今天的话题人物—Amy。

T: To be fat or thin is important for a person? To make it clear, let’s read the three e-mails about Amy fast and do Ex.C1 on Page44.
要求学生根据提供的选择题到课文中寻找相关信息。

通过完成这个任务使学生粗略地了解邮件的内容，同时使快速获取信息的能力得到提高。

1st E-mail
T: What happened to Amy? Please read the first e-mail quickly and retell it. I’ll give you some hints:
Used to go to the gym --Now( take weight-loss pills)-- Why ( be ashamed of…)--  How?  (feel … )--But Mum said:  dangerous and priceless
[设计意图]
运用复述教学方式不仅可以锻炼学生的阅读理解能力并对事件有大致的了解,同时让学生自己组织语言来表述事件经过，给学生语言的替换能力和口头表达能力的锻炼机会。
2nd E-mail
1. T: In the first e-mail ,we know that Amy took the weight-loss pills and lost 7kg,which made her feel not very energetic. Then what happened to her? Did she succeed? Read the second E-mail and fill in the blanks.

让学生了解第二封信的主要内容,在此基础上完成以上空格，并训练学生提取并准确表达信息的能力。
2. T： Now that we have read the tow e-mails .Let’s analyse detailly, I think there’re three periods about Amy’s mood, what is her mood in each period？
Period One (in the first E-mail) happy
Period Two (in the second E-mail) regretful
Period Three (in the hospital) feeling better
(The teacher can offer the answers to the students.)
T: We know that in the first e-mail Amy wanted to be thin very much and in the second Amy was going to die because she had taken some weight-loss pills .So what’s the meaning of the title “dying to be thin…”
S: There are two points :
1. Amy really wanted to be thin.
2. Amy was going to die because she had taken some weight-loss pills .

这一步是把E-mail 1 和E-mail2 联系起来,对Amy 的整件事情有进一步的理解，由浅入深，从事件表面到人物内心，进而挖掘出文章标题的真正含义，充分训练他们的猜测能力。
3rd E-mail
T: Suppose you are Amy’s best friend. If you are going to write a letter to her, what will you say to her? And what advice would you give to Amy? Let’s move to the third e-mail and find some key words to express Zhou Ling’s feeling

T: Zhou Ling gives some advice:
To Amy:  Nothing is more important than health.
To many Chinese people:  They should learn from Amy’s story.

从第三封信的分析中，让学生从人物心理感受的剖析中得出文章的主旨：

作业的布置也是教学设计的重要环节，是对课堂教学的巩固和延伸，让学生自主复习课堂所学知识，有效地巩固。
六、教学后的反思
学生完全有能力用英语表达自己的思想见解，教师应千方百计为学生创造情景，使他们在英语课堂上努力做到善思、好说、爱动。同时教师应始终贯彻教学需要艺术，需要机智，需要创新，基于教材又不拘泥于教材的新教学理念。
