W: Yes, I love his poem The Road Not Taken. It’s so beautiful. If you’d like to learn more, I have a copy of the collection of his poems and you can borrow it. (1) M: Great! I’m about to write an article about him. Text 2 M: I saw you volunteering with your friends in the community recently. I remember you’re not good at socializing. So why? W: Well, I enjoy helping the elderly and offering support to the food drives. It has strengthened my connection with the community and made me a more caring person. (2) Text 3 M: You’ve seemed a lot calmer recently, Helen. Have you changed your daily schedule or started playing music? W: Neither. I took up a new hobby these days. I enjoy painting in the garden and it makes me relaxed. (3) Text 4 M: How was your weekend, Amy? W: It was really busy! My aunt and uncle were visiting and we had a big family meal. (4) What about you? M: I just read some books at home because of the bad weather. I was planning to hang out with my friends. Text 5 M: Have you done the history project, Sarah? W: Yes, I finished it yesterday. Who knew the 12th century could be so interesting? M: Well, I’m a bit behind on it. I didn’t find it as exciting as you did. And I need some extra help as well. (5) Text 6 (第 6 题为推断题) W: Excuse me, I accidentally dropped some coffee on my dress. Do you think you can manage it? M: Let me see… Yes, it’s not a big problem. W: You’re a great help, I must say! It’s a gift from my mother and I’m going to a huge birthday party wearing it the day after tomorrow. When can I collect it? M: Well, today is too late, and I intend to head out for dinner with my friends in a few minutes. (7) So could you come back tomorrow to pick it up? W: Sure. Thanks a lot. Text 7 (第 8 题为推断题) M: So, Claire, you’ve been using our new language learning app for a month now. (9) What do you think? W: It’s fine, but there’s definitely room for improvement. M: Like what? W: For example, there is no night mode. I do a lot of learning in the evening, so I’d prefer not to be staring at a bright white screen for hours. M: We’re working on it now, and it can be solved shortly. Anything else? W: Yes! Well, some of the voices sound a little bit robotic and the pronunciation is not that correct and clear. (9) I’d suggest finding professionals to do the recording. M: I’ll consider that. Thank you. Your feedback is really helpful. Text 8 (第 10 题为推断题) M: Hey, Kate. (11) (12) (13) You’re down the whole day. Is something wrong? (11) W: Melissa and I had a fight yesterday. (11) She’s not saying a word to me now. M: What happened? W: She’s angry because I applied to a different university from her. M: What do you mean? W: She wants to study computing at Oxford. I prefer fashion, so I chose the University of the Arts in London. (12) She got mad at me for not going to the same university. M: It’s natural that friends go on different paths after high school. You can still keep in touch with one another. W: That’s what I said to her, but she just ignored me. M: Dear, just give her a couple of days to calm down. I’m sure she’ll soon figure it out. (13) W: I hope so. I don’t want to lose her as a good friend. Text 9 (第 14 题为总结题) M: Today on the show, we’ll be talking about something about the universe and its elements. And we’re honored to have Dr. Jane Scope with us. (15) W: Thanks for having me. (15) M: I know you’ve written a book about the universe and dark matter. Could you explain that to our viewers? W: Well, no one really knows what dark matter is. It’s called so because we think it is a type of matter that doesn’t react to light. (16) M: So how do we know it exists? W: It’s just a theory at the moment, but there’s strong evidence for it. M: What’s that? W: In the universe, we can see how planets and stars act and influence each other, but sometimes they don’t react how we believe they should. That means something else is affecting their actions. M: So how much of the universe is dark matter? W: Well, the current popular model suggests the universe is made up of about 5% matter, 26% dark matter, and the rest is what we term dark energy. (17) Text 10 Hello, everyone. Thank you for coming. On behalf of the town office, I’m here to share some tips on what to do if your area is hit by a flood. (18) First, always stay informed. (19) Listen to the news or weather reports to find out if a flood is likely to happen. If there’s a flood warning, take it seriously and follow any instructions given by us local leaders. Next, make sure you have an emergency bag ready. This should include things like water, food, batteries, and medicine. Keep this in a place where you can get it quickly. If your home is flooded and you need to leave, do so immediately. And I’d like to remind you that you should never drive through flooded roads. (20) Just six inches of water can knock you down, and one foot of water can sweep away a car. If you can’t leave, move to the highest floor and wait for help. Lastly, stay calm and help others if you can. Thank you, and stay safe!
